New Craft-beer Doc Includes Brew Gentlemen
With the current abundance of good will towards craft beer, opening a brewery seems a bit like printing your own cash. Though there are a zillion of them already (I counted), its rare to find a brand-new brewery having difficulty moving beer or filling taproom stools. According to the Makers Association, 615 craft breweries opened in 2014 nationally, and simply 45 closed. Naturally, breweries are not immune to the monetary and governmental difficulties pestering every business. And in Blood, Sweat, and Beer, a documentary that premiered in your area during Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week, that battle concerns the huge screen.
The film follows two breweries as they enter the roiling waters of American craft beer. Though filmmakers Chip Hiden and Alexis Irvin hail from Washington, DC, one of those breweries is Braddocks have Brew Gentlemen. All in all, Hiden and Irvin shot more than 500 hours of footage, consisting of interviews with the nations leading brewers, and whittled it down into a stylish, 70-minute peek into the world of American craft beer.
