Mule
deer are an at-risk species in the Yukon and are specially protected
by the Yukon Wildlife Act.
Mule
deer are at the northern limits of their range in the Yukon. They
have been observed as far north as Dawson City and Ross River. Their
numbers have been estimated between 500 and 1,000 animals, and appear
to be slowly increasing. Their habitat in the Yukon is limited,
and the population is subject to predation and winter weather extremes.
